2012 Business Creativity Award

Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC) granted this award to Antamina in the category of Environmental Protection for their project entitled the Huarmey Forest.

In this initiative, we succeeded in building a forest on over 177 hectares of arid desert land, through the ecological reuse of the water generated in the transport of mineral ore from our mine to Puerto Punta Lobitos (Huarmey), where our products are loaded for shipment.

More than twelve years ago, this area was a typical desert on Peru’s coast; today this forest produces multiple environmental benefits such as the formation of an ecosystem, the capture and fixation of atmospheric carbon and improvements in the purity of air and soil.
