Regional Office of Work Declared Inadmissible the Strike Announced by the Labor Union of Antamina

• Antamina ensures normal performance of activities and reiterates its desire for dialogue and understanding.

In official communication, the Dirección Regional de trabajo y Promoción del Empleo de Ancash (Auto Directorial No. 005-2014- Ancash Region – DrType / DPSC-CHIM) has declared inadmissible the strike announced by the leadership of SUTRACOMASA. Among other reasons, the labor department mainly indicates that Antamina has not breached any final judicial determination on any legal, employment or contractual obligation and the right to strike is supposed to have exhausted all direct negotiation between the parties, which does not apply, as the company is not negotiating a new collective agreement, but rather the current agreement is valid and in full compliance.

The company has confirmed to its employees that will provide all the necessary measures and guarantees to offer tranquility and provide for the safety of workers who wish to continue their work. Antamina has asked SUTRACOMASA union leadership to give thought, and has pointed out that the only thing that will be accomplished with a measure of force is a reduction in profit from a profit-sharing plan (Peruvian legal requirement) that is precisely the reason for the strike.

For many years, Antamina has been a symbol of dialogue to reach agreements thus has achieved exemplary industrial harmony in the mining sector. First, the dialogue and the search for understanding rather than belligerent actions that have allowed signing four successful Collective Agreements. The company insists on pointing their willingness to find in the dialogue and understanding, solutions that allow us to continue to build a company with excellence and leadership for the Ancash region and for our country.
