News brief

We wish to report with transparency about an incident without any serious consequences that occurred today in our operations at the time a truck was being loaded with ore.

It is important to note that Cesar Dueñas, driver of the truck with over two years of experience, suffered a lower back muscle spasm as a result of the incident. Cesar, a member of Operations A Shift, was treated and examined immediately. He is in good health and on the way to Lima where he lives with his family to be evaluated again according to protocol.

Despite what has been repeatedly stated by some of Antamina’s Union leaders, this is the first incident that has occurred since November 10th, the date on which the Union began the strike that has since been declared illegal by the government labor authorities.

The worker responsible for the mining shovel compromised in the incident is a qualified operator with extensive experience and who works as a trainer in handling this type of machinery.

We reject any information that is contrary to this notice as it does not adhere to the truth.

Despite the strike, our operations are maintaining their normal pace. Today a ship carrying more than 45 thousand tons of Antamina copper concentrate left Puerto Punta Lobitos and is on its way to Asia.

We call upon the leaders of Sutracomasa to become part of the proposed dialogue of which the Ministry of Labor is a participant. Seeking a solution through measures involving pressure tactics is not the path that the authorities are proposing. Antamina be present at the meeting called for Monday the 17th.

The commitment we must all undertake is to stay calm and promote dialogue and social peace.
