In the context of the announcement of strike Antamina confirms its willingness to dialogue and calls the Union representatives to reflect

After accepting the invitation of Antamina last week, today’s meeting with representatives of SUTRACOMASA, one of the two unions existing in Antamina and the organization that has stated its intention to carry out a strike after learning that this year, everyone in the company received less profit from a profit-sharing plan (Peruvian legal requirement).

Profits are fluctuating income related with revenues of a company which are distributed according to conditions specified by law and which are scrupulously observed by Antamina.

One of Antamina values is a transparent and regular dialogue; however, in this case SUTRACOMASA representatives have accepted the request for dialogue after they voted to strike and announced the startup. Antamina understands the concerns of its collaborators, stating that it is important to note that the Labor Union claim does not refer to wages or social benefits, but to a situation linked to the production of Antamina and the unstable international market situation. The company is in a stage of lower production, a fact foreseen in the mining plan, which hopes to overcome in the medium term.

At this meeting, we have invited SUTRACOMASA leaders to reflection, because a strike does not benefit anyone. By producing less mineral and not making progress with the mining plan, the production of Antamina gets affected and, therefore, revenue of us all. Not only Antamina and workers are affected by the strike; Ancash and Peru too would stop receiving income for canon and taxes.

We have called to act responsibly and with future vision. This is the time to show commitment to the country. Finding a way of understanding beyond requests that cannot be served is now in your hands. Those in Antamina who understand that a strike is not the way to keep growing, want to call for reflection to those who believe that strike is the solution. All this will result in a reduction in profits, which is precisely the reason for the strike.
