Health and Safety Management System – OHSAS 18001
At Antamina, the Health & Safety of our employees and strategic partners is a priority, which is why we seek to minimize and control any work related risk by setting targets of zero injuries and zero accidents.
In this regard, we are certified under the OHSAS 18001 international standard, which establishes a Health and Safety Management System in the workplace under a set of procedures and high work standards. The object of this standard is to control and minimize occupational risks that have an impact on the health and safety of our employees and strategic partners.
Furthermore, we have integrated this standard with the ISO 14001 Environmental certification, and we have successfully implemented and certified an Integrated Management System.
This certification encompasses every aspect of Antamina operations including its ore slurry pipeline and external transport operations.
Our Health and Safety Management System is exemplified through three major plans of actions:
- Occupational Health
- Industrial Safety
- Emergency response services
As a part of this commitment, we implemented the Vida saludable (Healthy living) program that seeks to keep our employees in the best comprehensive psychological and physical health under a plan that includes nutritional counseling and an exercise routine.
We also seek to prevent any type of health risk and administer annual occupational health exams and mapping exercises – to our entire team – so that we may act quickly in the event that we any health problem or illness in our employees or strategic partners is identified.
Occupational hygiene is also a fundamental pillar of Antamina’s culture. To this end, we provide and maintain healthy appropriate spaces that enable our people to perform their jobs in optimum conditions.
Safety is one of the cornerstones of Antamina’s good performance. We have an ongoing commitment with ourselves to maintain a safe and accident-free work space. In order to achieve this objective, the cooperation from each and every member of the Antamina family is essential. Through the development of interrelationships between work teams, as well as discipline and mutual care for each other, we have established an Interdependent Safety Culture which seeks to achieve a score of zero accidents in industrial safety.
The OHSAS 18001:2007 international certification makes our commitment to achieve this goal abundantly clear. This motivates us to continue operating efficiently, and continuously analyze, communicate, control and monitor those risks which are inherently characteristic of our work.
Companies in the metals and mining industries are exposed to occasional emergencies whether they originate from natural or technological causes or are a result of human error. We must therefore be prepared and ready to deal with any contingency.
At Antamina, we prioritize the protection of life and preservation of the good health and physical well-being of our employees as well as reducing environmental impact, in the event of potential emergencies, inside and outside company premises.
In this regard, we have a specialized team trained in first aid, different types of rescue procedures – such as rope or vehicle rescue, and – firefighting techniques, etc. In addition, our personnel undergo regular training to ensure they are able to respond rapidly in the event of possible emergencies.
