Antamina has an emergency response plan that is periodically
reviewed. This review incorporates any personnel changes,
any new company regulations and policies, and the identification
of emergency situations. It also updates response techniques,
equipment, materials, organization and responsibilities of
the emergency response teams.
A Contingency Plan and Chemical Incident Response Plan have
also been developed to transport dangerous substances. These
documents have been presented before the competent authorities
according to current regulations.
The above-mentioned plan includes training personnel from
the company and contractors for an immediate response in the
face of any incident that threatens worker safety, the property
or the environment. The response and recovery teams are constantly
reviewed and improved.

Personnel from the Environmental Department, as part of their
professional development, participate in conferences and seminars
on environmental technical, legal and normative issues. As
part of the “Peruvianization” process, national
personnel are being trained to occupy positions that were
originally assigned to foreign personnel.
Additionally, under the safety program, all of Antamina’s
employees are obligated to take part in an Induction Course
(10 hours) and a 16-hour STOP course (Safety in the Work Place
for Preventive Observation) carried out by the firm Dupont.
Employees receive ongoing training depending on the department
they work in. A significant number of local workers begin
as support workers, for example spotters (people who park
the heavy equipment). As a result, they spend more hours in
training related to safety issues. Moreover, these personnel
must participate in 100 hours of basic training during the
year (induction, safety, indications etc.) and depending on
their tasks, must carry out between 120 and 250 additional
hours of operative courses.
