The objectives of the Water Quality Monitoring Program are:

To confirm the base line presented in the Environmental Impact Study (EIS), which will make it possible to have better information during the operation.
To identify a possible impact on the quality of water bodies.
To ensure acceptable levels of water quality in the bodies of water that fall within the project area.
To monitor the quality of runoff coming from the residual water treatment plant.
To monitor the ocean close to port facilities to ensure company facilities and operations have not had an impact.
To monitor the flow and quality of water in the main basins.
Water quality testing occurs daily, weekly, or monthly, depending on the area being monitored. All information is stored in a computerized database with graphs that show the analytical results of each monitoring station for their respective interpretation.

This program seeks to determine the degree of fulfillment of current air quality norms as well as the commitments stipulated in the Environmental Impact Study (EIS).

The monitoring includes measuring the total particles in suspension, Particulate Matter (PM 10), arsenic and lead. High volume air samplers are used to assess air quality, based on the Protocol to Monitor Air Quality and Emissions from the Ministry of Energy and Mines. Concurrently, meteorological information is collected, which is used to help interpret the results obtained.

Currently there are air monitoring stations in the valleys of Antamina, Ayash and Yanacancha.

The objective of this program is to determine the living conditions in the water bodies that fall within the project’s sphere of influence and to establish whether any changes have been produced in these conditions (for example variations in fish and other populations). Also, the program seeks to determine whether these changes are associated with construction, operation or closure activities developed during the project.

The area of study includes the basins, lagoons and ocean areas that could be affected by Antamina’s activities. This program is carried out twice a year in fresh water bodies, taking into account the rainy season and the low water mark. It is carried out once a year in the ocean. The population and representatives from the Environmental Committees of Huarmey and San Marcos are involved in the fieldwork.
