The environmental educational program is designed to inform
and educate personnel from Compañía Minera Antamina
S.A. and contractors about the importance of environmental
concerns in daily work. This program includes the publication
of articles, educational material and graphs and entails several
training modules such as: waste management practices, policies
and procedures, water monitoring program, response to spills,
etc.

Another extremely relevant issue for the operation is obtaining
the necessary authorizations, permits and licenses.
From the construction to the operation phase, Antamina has obtained
more than 300 licenses and permits from different central
and local government sectors, representing an enormous legal
and documentary effort.
One of the results of this effort was a document produced
by Antamina and Apoyo S.A. that offers strategies to improve the
relationship between investors and the public sector, creating
a system marked by fewer bureaucratic obstacles, administrative
simplification, transparency and a concerted effort to avoid
corruption.(White Book).

Representatives from Antamina’s partner firms carry out
periodic safety and environment audits to evaluate working
conditions.
A specialized group of technical advisors contracted by banks
that fund Antamina also carry out an audit that includes environmental
aspects. These periodic audits cover the area of the mine,
the access highway, the pipeline and the port of Huarmey.
They are designed to determine the level of environmental
protection in each area and the degree of progress between
audits. The issue of community relations is also taken into
consideration. Specifically, auditors look at the communication
between the company and the communities and how issues related
to environmental protection are managed.
Peru Government Audit
According to Resolution N° 248-99-EM/DGM promulgated
on December 27th, 1999 by the Ministry of Energy and Mines,
audits are carried out on a semester basis. The auditor verifies
the fulfillment of the national environment and safety norms,
as well as commitments contracted in the Environmental
Impact Study (EIS).
