This project increased Peru’s gross domestic product by 0.8 percent and increased Peruvian mining production 30 percent in 2002.

Ancash has the sixth highest GDP of all Peruvian regions due to Antamina and is expected to grow another 60 percent. It was previously ranked 12th.

Antamina is expected to become the country’s leading producer of zinc and the second largest copper and molybdenum producer among Peruvian mining companies. There is also silver content in the concentrates exported by Antamina, that are valued upon arrival at their destination and which essentially constitute silver exports.
